Thoughts as Apple Vision Pro launches in Japan
Apple Vision Pro will be released in Japan on June 28. The price starts at 599,800 yen including tax, which felt slightly cheaper than I had expected. Of course, it would have been even better if it were cheaper still.
I had already been experimentally developing apps for Apple Vision Pro, and at the Hobonichi hackathon I joined a team building an app for Vision OS.
Looking back now, I may have been the person who benefited most from that Hobonichi hackathon. I was able to borrow an Apple Vision Pro, which I did not own myself, from Hobonichi and use it almost exclusively for two full days. I pushed hard, so after the hackathon ended I was a little burned out.
Part of me feels that I already played with Apple Vision Pro enough to feel fairly satisfied, while another part of me wants to buy the Japanese version and explore it again.
However, after starting with XREAL app development and trying to build for various devices, I have come to one realization: I may need to take more time to learn the fundamentals of developing for XR devices from the ground up.
It is certainly possible to build an app by searching, asking ChatGPT for help, and pushing forward. But I cannot shake the impression that what I make is somewhat hollow, like a castle built on sand. With Web apps, for example, I feel that I built my understanding from a lower level. I want to establish that same footing around XR.
The second half of this year is beginning, and for the next six months I want to make one theme: taking a more careful approach to the fundamentals of XR.
