Engawa AI x XR #3: Our WebMCP Special Has Wrapped Up

The venue on the day of Engawa AI x XR

The third Engawa AI x XR was held on Saturday, September 12. This time, we focused on WebMCP. The submission deadline for the WebMCP Challenge had just passed, so I was able to take a breath. Three people who had entered the WebMCP Challenge came along, making it an especially enjoyable session for me.

Even with a WebMCP special, the current level of awareness is probably still at the point where people ask, “What is WebMCP in the first place?” So I opened with a quick talk about WebMCP. Fortunately, entering the WebMCP Challenge meant I needed to understand WebMCP itself in a short period of time, so I had only just been studying it.

The slides are below.

If there is a study group that would like to hear about WebMCP, I would be happy to come and speak—please feel free to invite me. I believe WebMCP will become one of the core capabilities expected of websites in the future, and I plan to keep following it.

If more people become interested in WebMCP, I would like to hold a second session as well.

Talks from WebMCP Challenge Participants

The WebMCP Challenge was a hackathon held on Devpost. The OpenAI Build Week, which took place previously, was also held on Devpost. The WebMCP Challenge had 7,070 participants. I do not know how many participants came from Japan overall, but I imagine that not very many made it as far as submitting an entry.

I say that because, despite OpenAI Build Week having 46,700 participants, only 8,015 submitted entries. Based on that ratio, I expected roughly 17%, or around 1,200 people, to submit—but the actual figure was 2,474. The submission rate may have been quite high this time. For Japanese participants, registering in English and creating an English introduction video is a significant amount of work; even if AI can help with it, I expected it to be quite a hassle.

Even though Engawa AI x XR is a small study group held in Motoyawata, three WebMCP Challenge participants, including myself, attended. During the hackathon, I was completely absorbed in creating my own project, so I had not seen it then. It was a great learning experience to see how different creators focused on entirely different aspects of the same topic, WebMCP, in their submissions.

Here are the slides from Okajun, one of the attendees.

The Next Session

We are planning the next session for late October. If there is a topic you would like us to cover, please post it to @kara_d or in the Discord channel.

By the way, here is the Discord. Even if you cannot attend the event but would like to check out the Discord, you are very welcome.
