This Weekend! Engawa AI x XR Takes a Closer Look at WebMCP

Just one week to go until the third Engawa AI x XR! For anyone who hasn't signed up yet, here's a preview of the topics we'll be covering. Chiba has been getting typhoons and bands of heavy rain lately, so I'm hoping the weather will spare us this weekend.

Topics for the Third Session

The highlight of the previous session was the talk on 3DGS by Yasuhito Nagatomo (@AtarayoSD) / X. I knew next to nothing about 3DGS, so I really appreciated getting an overview. I gave myself a bit of homework: try creating 3DGS content of our venue, Co-do. I'll give it a shot when I find some time.

This time, our main topic will be WebMCP.

Speaking of WebMCP, a hackathon called the WebMCP Challenge recently took place. Participants had from August 26 to September 4 to build a website or application using WebMCP and submit it with a demo video. Like OpenAI Build Week, it had OpenAI as its main sponsor.

The WebMCP Challenge kicked off right after the OpenAI Build Week results were announced, and submissions have already closed. I entered too, and there were about 7,000 participants. That's fewer than OpenAI Build Week, but with only ten projects winning prizes, the competition looks pretty fierce. Still, I think the odds are better than they were for OpenAI Build Week.

Having built and submitted a web application using WebMCP myself, I've picked up a fair amount about it. That's what I'd like to share this time.

If you're wondering, "What even is WebMCP?", this is a great event for you too. It's a small gathering, so it's easy to ask questions. Come join us!

Anyone who wants to give a talk is welcome at Engawa AI x XR. You don't need slides or anything, so if you've built something with WebMCP, feel free to tell us about it. Other AI and XR topics are welcome too, of course.

I'd also like to chat about things like:

  • The results of OpenAI Build Week, which have now been announced
  • The release of GPT-6 Astra

Although my OpenAI Build Week result was disappointing, there were things to learn from it. I'd like to share those lessons.
