Engawa AI x XR #4 Is on November 14: An XR Games Special!
The fourth Engawa AI x XR will be held on November 14. As usual, it is on a Saturday, starting at 2:00 PM. Doors open from 1:30 PM, so feel free to come a little early.
This time, the special theme is XR games. I am planning to bring my Steam Frame, Steam Machine, and Steam Controller. We are looking for talks on anything from “I played this” to “I made this.”
Do you all play XR games?
I do not play that many myself, but I am a heavy Steam user. XR can mean anything from games played with a VR headset to games played on a smartphone. Pokémon GO would probably count as an XR game in a broad sense, too.
Steam Frame came out a little while ago. It is a VR gaming device released by Valve, the company that runs Steam, the PC gaming platform.
The launch turned into an intense scramble to buy one. The more affordable 256GB model disappeared instantly, so I had no choice but to buy the 1TB model. Even that was fiercely contested and sold out immediately.
Steam Machine and Steam Controller also came out a little while ago. They are a desktop PC and a game controller, respectively. I bought those too—all with Steam Frame in mind.
Meta will also release Meta VR Glasses next year.
I like how decisively they used “VR” in the product name rather than calling it XR or something spatial-related. Since Meta Quest already has a substantial market share, I think Meta VR Glasses could sell well too.
Also, the # Meta VR Start Developer Competition will be held at the end of the year.
In other words, I am hoping this might be another “first year of VR”—or perhaps the first year of VR games.
That is why we are doing an XR games special. I know about the things I have bought, but I know very little about anything else. I would love to talk about and hear all kinds of things, from recommendations for games to games people have made.
These days, thanks to AI, quite a few people say they started out as players but became creators. Please come along!
