My 2026 New Year's Resolution: Building Bridges from the Old to the New

This year's zodiac illustration

2026 arrived before I knew it, and five days have already passed. The first three days of the New Year barely felt like a holiday, and in any case 2026 has begun. So I am writing my usual New Year's resolution.

2026 began with news that made the year feel turbulent from the start. Even without that, AI is evolving at an incredible speed, and I cannot predict at all how the industry or work itself will change. Whatever era comes next, we have to survive it, and I believe there must be some way to do that.

My 2025 retrospective looked like this.

In 2026, while keeping an eye on global trends, I think I will personally continue the work I started in 2025.

Supporting People Who Want to Work on XR

The things I actively worked on in 2025 were Vision Pro, which runs visionOS, and Even G1, which works together with a smartphone. I wrote about both in my retrospective.

I plan to keep exploring their possibilities. That said, in 2026 devices such as Android XR related products and Steam Frame will likely appear as things I cannot ignore, so I expect to keep an eye on those as well.

Content that requires a dedicated device will probably take quite a long time to spread widely, so I want to settle in and work on it patiently. I also think the people considering these projects often face the problem that PoC and validation phases tend to become long.

> "We are not going to turn this into a business immediately, but we want someone to explore the possibilities with us." > "No one in our company can really try this yet, so it would help to have someone to talk ideas through with."

I would be grateful if I could get involved from that kind of stage.

Around Yori Hiroi Frontend

At the moment, "Yori Hiroi Frontend," meaning this site, functions as a place for my own exploration. In 2026, I want to start holding events. For people interested in Yori Hiroi Frontend, I would like to try organizing activities somewhere around eastern Tokyo or western Chiba, an area that is easy for me to join.

The core message I want to put forward is:

> "Explore many things, and survive."

Rather than something that simply feels like a study group, I am aiming for something closer to a community. I hope it can become a place where participants can let out the vague frustration of being unsure how to move forward while they are still searching for the right approach.

AI as a Core Part of Work

Properly growing Seiro MCP, which I released as OSS at the end of the year, should ultimately deepen my understanding of AI. Since I basically want to build tools around AI in Rust, I also expect it to deepen my understanding of Rust.

I also plan to push forward with Rust-based websites, web apps, and WebXR, and I have been playing with Dioxus and Axum.

Around AI, I plan to dig deeply into OpenAI-related work. I have subscribed to a Pro account, and in 2026 I plan to focus on this area to improve my own work.

That is why I also want to write about how AI can actually be useful in day-to-day work. For people wondering how to insert AI into existing workflows, I think I can talk with them from the environment setup stage before any code is written.

Continuing to Support Legacy Web Frontends

I have come to believe that, as work suited to a senior designer and engineer, continuing to support legacy frontends is still important. As I wrote above, I will keep challenging myself with new things, but I also want to properly value older things.

I opened my business as a web production studio in 1998, and I do not think there are many people still active today who understand the implementation side from that era. As someone who has been building for the web since before jQuery, I hope I can support people who operate legacy systems and eventually want to brush them up into a more modern form.

> "We have been operating this for a long time, but we are anxious about what to do from here."

I would be happy if I could become a good sounding board or adviser for people in that situation.
