How React Static came to an end
React Static was one of the products I considered adopting for a while. I remember the choice at the time feeling like Gatsby or React Static. That React Static had entered maintenance mode in 2022.
I liked React Static quite a lot at the time, enough that the predecessor site to Kansock Industries was built with React Static. I also once gave a session comparing it at a study group I was organizing.
The reason I personally favored React Static was that, at the time, the generated folder structure and JSON structure felt more beautiful than Gatsby's. The configuration was also easier to understand, and Gatsby's GraphQL-oriented approach felt a little too early for me back then.
For React Static, there is a post about why development could not continue.
COVID-19 ended up removing or stopping many things from society, and React Static seems to have been one of them. Now we have Astro, and Next.js and Remix are doing well too. The era keeps changing quickly as always. Remix has also become React Router v8. I intend to keep watching the changes in frontend development.
